For those of you who may never heard of the word, mnemonic means memory aid. It is an adjective related to things that help improve memory. Educational tools, if you will.
If you’re a film buff, you may have heard of one called “Johnny Mnemonic”, a 1995 feature in which a data courier. Keanu Reeves is the star in the film. He carries on a large data package, 320 gigabytes in size, in his mind. If he does not deliver it from Beijing to Newark, it will kill him. I suppose you could call this forced memory. It was not his brain that developed this computer chip, this memory tool. It contains a cure for a neurological syndrome in the future and put his life in danger.
Some mnemonics appear to be horrific methods of the person who would prefer not to remember. But this may be their only solution to overcome a tragedy, to heal them. So, once again, forced memory is put into effect. A person has to relive the mentally or emotionally negative event to be able to move on with their lives and put the worst of the trauma behind them.
A coach, psychiatrist, hypnotist, counselor, pastor, reliable family member, teacher or close friend may be needed to provide moral support for the courage to use mnemonic tools.
Hypnosis has long been used as mnemonic tools. Memory is a process of reconstruction, rather than to recycle it. Often, the mind must be forced through hypnosis to reconstruct the events that caused the person to suffer and are trying to protect themselves by choosing oblivious to forget. Therefore, hypnosis can sometimes be a dangerous but necessary, mnemonic tools.
Hypnosis is also a lucrative area. It is often used to help people quit an unhealthy habit, such as chronic nail-biting, smoking and overeating. It can also be used as a form of pain. No matter how it is used, it is about the subconscious mind.
Mnemonic tools can be a positive way to overcome small annoyances. Suppose that your short-term memory loss is disrupting your life in such a way that you are in a constant state of frustration. Small annoyances can add up to a major problem.
You may have been unaware used mnemonic tools to learn how to avoid some disturbing memories. As an associate objects with someone who used to object to cause pain. You decide to avoid the use of the subject in order to force you to leave the memory of the past. Maybe an uncle always dreaded purple bar, so to avoid having to constantly be reminded of Uncle, you decide to never buy an item the color purple. It may become a habit that you do without really thinking about it.
“People have been using flash cards, music, games and repetition as mnemonics. Remember the old saying about tying a string around your finger to remind you of something important? Or put a rubber band on your wrist, pop when you face a temptation that you are trying to overcome?
Whatever the case may be, mnemonics can be very productive in memory improvement.
